Paramedics treated the couple but they died at the scene.
The driver of the car was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. Now he is serious but stable.
On Wednesday NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said early investigations showed “neither (driver) should have been on the road” as Brown was a conditional rider and should not have had a passenger , and the driver of the Toyota was suspended.
“We have a situation where both the motorcyclist and the driver should not have been in that situation and that reflects the ongoing challenge facing NSW police,” McFadden said.
“The frustration comes from knowing that this could have been prevented.”
McFadden said the speed of the motorcycle rider was a “significant contributing factor.”
The pair rode in a convoy of up to 40 motorcyclists en route to Ms Macquarie’s seat in inner Sydney. McFadden claimed that only “two or three” of the convoy stopped to help after the crash.
“The lack of human factor in the other members of the group is reprehensible,” he added.
Worth Street was closed between the Hume Freeway and Muir Road as police investigated.
Anyone with CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
