Police have released a facial reconstruction of a woman found in a river in Manchester eight months ago, but whose identity remains a mystery.

The body of the woman, wearing a neon green Primark top and New Look jeans, was discovered by a member of the public in the River Mersey at Chorlton Water Park on March 21.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that despite forensic and DNA tests and a search of missing people databases, they still have no idea who the woman is.

Facial reconstruction created by Face Lab at Liverpool John Moores Universityshe was released on Friday in hopes that someone would recognize her.

Police believe the woman’s body may have been in the river for a month or two. It may have entered the water in a surrounding area or region, with the rivers Tame and Goyt merging into the Mersey.

The cause of death is considered undetermined.

Det Insp Louise Edwards, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, urged anyone who recognized the woman or had information to contact police.

“We want nothing more than to reunite her with her family and friends,” she said. “She could be someone’s mother, aunt, sister or cousin – someone out there will know who she is and we want to make sure she goes back to her loved ones.”

“If you have any information at all, please contact us. Even the smallest amount of information could go a long way in finding out who she is and the circumstances that led to her discovery in the river more than eight months ago.
