Richmond Major League triple shortstop Dylan Grimes may have played the last game of AFL career after injury ended 2024 season early.
Grimes underwent back surgery and will be out for the rest of the season.
The club said there is no set date for his return to training and the exact timeline of his injury remains to be determined.

The 32-year-old has just five games this year and hasn’t played since the round 8 loss to Fremantle.
Grimes is in the final year of his contract and qualifies as an unrestricted free agent.
But given his injury problems this year, it remains to be seen whether he will be offered a new contract at the Tigers or elsewhere.
Grimes was a key member of Richmond’s three senior teams in 2017, ’19 and ’20 and won the best and fairest award in 2021 before becoming co-captain with Toby Nankervis in 2022.
He stepped down from the role on the eve of this season, with Nankervis taking over as sole captain.
Grimes’ season-ending injury continues a terrible run for the club with Josh Gibkus (ACL), Judson Clarke (ACL), Mykelti Lefau (ACL), Sam Naismith (ACL) and Tyler Young (ACL) already sidelined for the year.
Star forward Tom Lynch is back on the injured list after picking up a minor hamstring injury, while Dion Prestia (calf), Jack Ross (foot) and Maurice Rioli Jr (ankle) are also still sidelined.
In better news, midfielder Jacob Hopper will return for Sunday’s clash with Carlton for his first game since Round 8 and just his fourth of an injury-plagued season.
