Gina Rinehart has officially been named the richest Australian woman for the fifth consecutive year, according to the Financial Review’s 2024 Rich List.

Amid the cost-of-living crisis, the country’s 200 richest people increased their fortunes by 11 percent.

Combined, they now control $625 billion, according to the AFR’s annual figures.

Gina Rinehart’s wealth has grown by $3 billion since this time last year, thanks to the rising market valuation of her mining companies.

This makes her the first Australian to break the $40 billion barrier.

You can see the full breakdown of who’s in this year’s top ten here:

Rinehart beat his closest rival, Meriton property magnate Harry Triguboff, by $14 billion.

Second place Triguboff is valued at $26.49 billion as of today.

Joint third place goes to tech billionaire and Rabbitoh co-owner Mike Cannon-Brookes, along with his former partner Annie Cannon-Brookes. Their combined assets of $24.38 billion have not yet been split in their recent split.

The 10 richest Australians in 2024

To make the list, data shows you’d need to have more than $718 million in assets and cash.

Five of the 10 richest people made their fortunes in mining, but Australia’s share of the technology sector is growing faster than any other industry.

A total of 28 tech moguls made the list this year, including fintech entrepreneurs and crypto-gambling billionaires.

NSW remains the state the wealthiest people call home with 80 in total.

Women’s representation on the list increased to 41 places this year, up from 36 last year.

The full list of this year’s millionaires and billionaires will be published in the AFR tomorrow.
