Australian radio legend Bob Rogers dies aged 97

Australian radio legend Bob Rogers, whose on-air career spanned 78 years, has died aged 97.

Friend Deryn Hinch paid tribute to the country’s longest-serving radio presenter after Rogers’ death at his Sydney home, surrounded by family.

“The words legend and icon are thrown around too easily these days, but Bob Rogers was both,” Hinch said.

“As a kid I used to listen to it on my crystal set across the ditch in New Zealand.

“I will have the honor of delivering his eulogy in Sydney next week. Well, my brother.

The TV veteran worked for several stations after starting work as a panel operator for Melbourne-based 3XY in 1942, aged 14.

Rogers was awarded the OAM in 2010 for his contribution to the media as a broadcaster.
